Thunder 109, Rockets 94: Thunder keep defenseless Rockets winless on road - When the Clippers whipped the Rockets, the Rockets could at least cling to the hope that if they had actually tried a little defense it might have been different.   READ MORE

Rockets’ defensive problems only growing - Though the Rockets’ defense has been dreadful in all four road games this season, giving up an average of 110.5 points on 54.8 percent shooting, the loss Wednesday to the Clippers was considered the worst.   READ MORE

With Kidd Missing, Who Will Pick Up His Minutes? - The Dallas Mavericks face the task of replacing Jason Kidd for at least one game. We'll take a look at the available options in the backcourt sans Kidd.   READ MORE

Mavs' bench equally responsible for scoring - Through eight games, the Dallas Mavericks are equally reliant on their bench for scoring as they are on their starting five, which might have something to do with why the Mavs rank 21st in the league in scoring at 92.4 points a game.   READ MORE

Building Another Ginobili:  How to Survive Six Weeks Without Manu - I don’t know if you guys heard but Manu Ginobili broke the 5th metacarpal bone on his left hand. Why yes, that is his shooting hand, thanks for asking. Fortunately it's not a season-ending injury. In 6 weeks or so he'll be back and that leaves plenty of time for him to regain his form before the playoffs. But while we wait for The Sickness to return, someone is going to have to pick up the slack. Asking someone to pick up the cape and wear it would be silly. No mere mortal can do that. But maybe a combination of mere mortals can come close to matching Manu’s superhuman skills. Let me take off my assistant skirtt my fan hat and put on my mad scientist scrubs and let's try to assemble us a new Manu using the skills other players don't seem to be using to their full potential.   READ MORE

Ticket: $115; Beer & Burger: $13.75; Watching Spurs Dominate the Mavs: Priceless - Oh, what fun! Even the third quarter when both teams combined only scored 24 points! This game was over early, and the crowd sat back and enjoyed a buzzer to buzzer convincing win. The number that counted the most when it was all over: if the score had been based solely on 3 pointers, it would have been Spurs 48, Mavs 3. Gary Neal, starting for Manu, set the three point standard early.   READ MORE

Luhnow pleased with minor league coaches, additions to Astros' front office - The Houston Astros finalized their minor league affiliate coaches for 2012 this past Tuesday and made other news by adding Sig Mejdal and Stephanie Wilka to the front office. Although general manager Jeff Luhnow didn't play a big role in constructing the minor league staffs, he approved the final list.   READ MORE

An Argument With Myself About Bud Norris - Recently, AstrosBill and others around here have been tossing around the idea of immediately trading Bud Norris for prospects. I'm not sure who first started mentioning it in the comments, but I decided it was an idea worth thinking about a little deeper.   READ MORE

Check out the perks in Albert Pujols' deal - The details of Albert Pujols' contract with the Angels were revealed this week and they include some interesting perks: Four season tickets for the life of his contract (that's the 10-year, $240 million contract, of course) A hotel suite on road trips A luxury suite at the ballpark for the Pujols Foundation, his charitable group, for 10 home games a year The right to buy a luxury suite between first base and third base for all home games.   READ MORE

Josh needs less contact to land more contract - Fans would love it if every Major Leaguer played like a wild-eyed Charlie Hustle, diving into bases without restraint, hurtling into walls and catchers with reckless abandon. While taking every play as if it's your last can create spectacular video and possibly make you a hero for a day, we need to keep in mind that there was only one indestructible Pete Rose, gifted with the DNA to survive the astonishing pounding he put his body through. A Rose by any other name playing that high-risk game can land in a hospital, subjected to surgical repairs that shelve him for stretches of seasons.   READ MORE

Going to the Texans' First Playoff Game? Take Us With You! - So I understand some of you are going to the Texans game on Saturday. Got your tickets and everything? Wonderful. Gonna do some tailgating while you're down there? Fantastic. As I live a scant 2,500 miles away from Reliant Stadium and will be unable to attend, let me be the first to say you suck I'm very happy for you.   READ MORE

Former Oilers rooting for Texans in playoffs - For most Houston NFL fans, the most infamous NFL playoff game involving a Houston team occurred Jan. 3, 1993. If you are somehow not aware, the Oilers made NFL history that day in Buffalo by allowing the Bills to come back from a 35-3 third-quarter deficit to win. The game still ranks as the greatest comeback in NFL playoff history.   READ MORE

Victor Butler: A rising star in Dallas - When it came time for the Cowboys to make their selection in the 4th round of the 2009 NFL Draft they choose defensive end Victor Butler out of Oregon State. Thoughts were to convert Victor Butler to outside linebacker in the Cowboys 3-4 defense. Three years after being drafted Butler has made a successful transition to outside linebacker and also contributes to the Cowboys special teams.   READ MORE

The Blame Bowl: Rob Ryan vs. GM Jerry - Ben Rogers and Jeff "Skin" Wade of ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM are asking for your help in placing the blame exactly where it should go. The Cowboys might not have made the playoffs after having every chance to win the NFC East, but that doesn't mean somebody can't walk away with a championship.   READ MORE

Stars-Oilers Preview - The Stars (22-16-1) are coming off a 4-1 victory at Nashville Thursday. Mike Ribeiro scored two goals for the Stars, who also got goals from Jamie Benn and Tom Wandell. “Guys stepped up to the plate,” Benn said. “We got a full effort from every player, and got a big two points. (Ribeiro) was one of our players that stood out and got us going there with two big goals. We need that from him. He’s one of our best players and it’s good to see.” Kari Lehtonen, who stopped 24 of 25 shots Thursday, will start in goal for the Stars on Saturday.   READ MORE

NHLPA responds to NHL's press release on realignment - National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) Executive Director Don Fehr issued the following statement this evening regarding the League's realignment proposal: "On the evening of December 5, 2011, the NHL informed the NHLPA that they proposed to put in place a four-conference format beginning with the 2012-13 season. As realignment affects Players' terms and conditions of employment, the CBA requires the League to obtain the NHLPA's consent before implementation. Over the last month, we have had several discussions with the League and extensive dialogue with Players, most recently on an Executive Board conference call on January 1. Two substantial Player concerns emerged: (1) whether the new structure would result in increased and more onerous travel; and (2) the disparity in chances of making the playoffs between the smaller and larger divisions.   READ MORE
