Splitter headed to Spain; Manu being wooed - Spurs center Tiago Splitted is headed overseas because of the NBA lockout and guard Manu Ginobili is being recruited like a blue chip prep prospect. One season removed from being Most Valuable Player of the Spanish ACB League, the website of ACB team Valencia BC reported Wednesday that Splitter has agreed to join the team. His contract will have an out clause allowing his return to the Spurs should the lockout end in time for the 2011-12 NBA season to commence. Though Ginobili, the All-Star guard, has said he would not consider playing overseas unless, and until, the entire NBA season is canceled, he has gotten offers from European teams on a daily basis, according to his agent. READ MORE Project Spurs: Parker leads Asvel past De Colo, Valencia - ParkerSan Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker kicked of the first day of EuroCup with a 87-78 win over fellow Frenchman and San Antonio Spurs draftee Nando De Colo and Valencia. Asvel went on a 9-0 run in the second quarter to take a 28 to 17 lead and at the half were up 34 to 27. Asvel needed Parker's fourth quarter heroics to pull ahead for good late in the game after the teams stayed close throughout the game. READ MORE ‘New School’ Offers Job To Unemployed Mavs Player - With the lockout ongoing and the cancellation of the NBA season looming, New School with Shan & RJ on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas is doing their part…by offering a job at the station for an unemployed player from the World Champion Dallas Mavericks. READ MORE Mavericks' wait for rings continues; NBA players reject owners' proposal - NBA players rejected the league's latest offer Monday and began disbanding the union, likely jeopardizing the season. “We're prepared to file this antitrust action against the NBA,” union executive director Billy Hunter said. “That's the best situation where players can get their due process.” And that's a tragedy as far as NBA Commissioner David Stern is concerned. “It looks like the 2011-12 season is really in jeopardy,” Stern said in an interview aired on ESPN. “It's just a big charade. To do it now, the union is ratcheting up I guess to see if they can scare the NBA owners or something. That's not happening.” Hunter said players were not prepared to agree to Stern's ultimatum to accept the current proposal or face a worse one, saying they thought it was “extremely unfair.” And they're aware what this battle might cost them. READ MORE Disbelief. - After meeting for about three hours today to decide on their course of action, the NBPA decided to summarily reject the owners' offer and pursue anti-trust litigation against the league. There will be no December 15th start, no 72 game season, in fact, there will likely be zero games. The players called the owners bluff, and it's pretty hard to point to a winner with today's result. This comes on the heels of optimism just weeks ago when the players announced that they were willing to come down to the owners' 50-50 offer, leaving just system issues to deal with. So yes, we're going to be losing a season fighting over the length of the mid-level exception, determining whether teams over the luxury tax should be able to acquire players through sign-and-trade, and deciding whether teams should pay $1.50 or $1.75 per dollar if they are $5-10 million over the threshold. Astros outright Carlos Corporan to Triple-A - Astros general manager Ed Wade announced Wednesday that Carlos Corporan cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City, thus removing him from the 40-man roster. Corporan can elect free agency due to a prior outright. The 27-year-old Corporan hit .188 with 11 RBI and eight doubles over 154 at-bats in 52 games for the Astros last season. He made 46 starts behind the plate. Corporan signed with Houston as a minor league free agent on Nov. 24, 2010 and hit .250 with three homers and 12 RBI in 22 games at Oklahoma City prior to earning a call-up June 10. READ MORE McLane: Astros sale vote coming Thursday - The sale of the Houston Astros has apparently passed through the final hurdles and is on the agenda Thursday for a full vote of the owners at their final quarterly joint meeting of the year, current owner Drayton McLane told a group of reporters on Wednesday evening. McLane said the sale to a group headed by Houston businessman Jim Crane for $610 million had presumably sailed through the ownership committee and the executive council, the last prerequisite for sale of a Major League Baseball franchise. Any sale needs approval of 75 percent of the owners or their representatives. "I didn't sit in on the meetings, but I didn't hear anything contrary to that," McLane said. "I talked to the Commissioner, and he said the ownership meeting went very well. I haven't talked to him since they had the executive council meeting, but hopefully that also went extremely well." READ MORE Mike Maddux out of running for Cubs job - Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux, it appears, will remain the Rangers pitching coach. According to multiple reports emanating from the owners/GM meetings in Milwaukee late Wednesday, the Chicago Cubs have offered their managerial job to Dale Sveum. The Cubs have not confirmed or denied the reports. Ranger officials had proclaimed confidence that Maddux would return to the Rangers for 2011 this week, though none were sure. Ranger officials did not respond to questions about whether the club had placed a deadline on the Cubs' window to speak with Maddux. READ MORE Dazzling Dozen: Cruz throws out Cabrera - Memorable plays during a season aren't always tremendous blasts or impressive pitching performances. Sometimes they are great defensive plays. Cruz had one of the greatest single series by a player in history in the ALCS. He ended up with six homers and 13 RBIs, the first player to ever have that many homers and runs driven in during one postseason series. But he also made some key plays with his glove and arm. And the throw he made against the Tigers in Comerica Park in Game 4 was one of the biggest. The Rangers and Tigers were tied at 3 in eighth inning of Game 4. Texas held a 2-1 lead in the series and was desperately trying to prevent the Tigers from winning a second straight game and evening the best-of-7 affair. With Miguel Cabrera at third base representing the go-ahead run, Delmon Young hit a fly ball that wasn't particularly deep to right. READ MORE

WR Robinson making a name with Cowboys - Four touchdowns in three weeks is impressive for a receiver who has been playing with the same quarterback for several years. But Laurent Robinson has accomplished that despite playing with Tony Romo for only a couple of months. Since the beginning of October, Robinson has been arguably the Cowboys' top receiver. That should be enough to make the 26-year-old journeyman think he’s found a home in the NFL, right? "I would like to, but I'm just trying to play right now and let that handle itself later in the year or at the end of the season or whatever," Robinson said Wednesday. "I'm just focused on this week and getting better every day in practice." Robinson, who has 27 catches for 441 yards and 16.3-yard average — highest among Dallas’ top receivers — has bounced around since being drafted by Atlanta in 2007. He played 21 games with the Falcons over a two-year period, catching one touchdown pass. His next two years were spent in St. Louis where he caught three touchdowns in 17 games. So why the sudden success? READ MORE Garrett: Still 'room for improvement' for Romo - Throwing eight touchdowns and one interception over the last four games, it's obvious that Tony Romo is playing some of his best football. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett wouldn't admit Wednesday that it's the best he has witnessed from Romo, instead electing to say that, like the rest of the team, "there's a lot of room for improvement." "Tony's playing pretty well," Garrett said. "We'll go back and watch the tape. There's some things that we always like and there's some things that we don't like. There were some plays in the game the other day that he certainly wants to have back. READ MORE Matt Schaub Injury: What It Means for Remainder of Texans' 2011 Season - TThe impact of QB Matt Schaub's injury will be felt not only by the Houston Texans but the rest of the AFC. With Schaub at the helm, the Texans have had the best record in the AFC and were on their way to home-field advantage in the playoffs. Ouch. The Texans have already lost LB Mario Williams for the year and WR Andre Johnson for a long time. Now Schaub looks to be out for the season. One good thing about this for Houston is the timing of the injury. Houston has an extra week to prepare backup QB Matt Leinart for the next matchup, against divisional foe Jacksonville Jaguars. However, that is just a short-term comfort Band-Aid. READ MORE Brett Favre? To the Texans? No. No. No. Next question. - Brett Favre is not in the discussion for the Texans. He wasn’t in the discussion yesterday and won’t be tomorrow. His name has come up on these stupid message boards and nowhere else. Last week, some knucklehead thought signing Albert Haynesworth was a great idea. These kinds of comments bother me because it reflects badly on Texans. Around the country, they say, “See? They really are as dumb as Rick Perry.” Matt Leinart is our starting QB. Let’s go over that one more time for the slowest in our audience: Matt Leinart is our starting QB. He’s going to start against Jacksonville, and if he remains healthy, he’s going to start every game after that. How is he going to do? I do not know. READ MORE

Adam Burish injury another tough break for Stars - The injuries are starting to pile up for the Dallas Stars. The latest big blow on the injury front is forward Adam Burish, who is expected to be out four to six weeks with a broken hand. “Bur was playing really well for us,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “It’s unfortunate.” Burish was injured in Tuesday night’s 6-0 loss to Florida when he was hit in the left hand by a puck off the stick of teammate Brenden Morrow. Burish was the second Dallas player to get knocked out of action by a puck in the last three games. Defenseman Alex Goligoski is expected to be out at least four weeks after suffering a broken thumb in last Friday’s 3-1 loss at Pittsburgh. The status of forward Krys Barch is up in the air as well. He twisted an ankle in the Florida game and he is listed as day-to-day. READ MORE NHL Board Of Governors Approve Tom Gaglardi As New Dallas Stars Owner - According to Mark Stepneski the NHL Board of Governors voted to approve Tom Gaglardi as the owner of your Dallas Stars. The final hurdle to the Stars changing hands from hedge-fund-purgatory to Gaglardi is the final bankruptcy hearing this Friday where it is expected that the judge will approve the plan. Much has been written about Gaglardi to this point, but one item that has been largely ignored in this process is that the Canadian businessman is half-Texan. His mother's family is from Longview, and he has family ties to the DFW area. READ MORE ---Staff and Wire Reports contributed to this story
