Spurs end two-game skid, dump Grizzlies - Matt Bonner scored 15 points, going 5 of 9 from outside the arc, and Tim Duncan added 14 points as the San Antonio Spurs sent Memphis to its fourth straight loss with a 83-73 victory over the Grizzlies on Monday night. Rookie Kawhi Leonard had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Spurs, who snapped a two-game skid. Richard Jefferson scored 13 points, while Danny Green finished with 11 points. O.J. Mayo led Memphis with 17 points, shooting 7 of 11. Mike Conley had 15 points for Memphis, and Marreese Speights scored 10, all in the first quarter. READ MORE Rodrigue Beaubois is still 'Rook' - More than two years into his NBA career, Rodrigue Beaubois still answers to “Rook.” Roddy B is coming on strong in Jason Kidd's absence. Ben and Skin have modest expectations for Roddy, because you don't want to let him break your heart. Roddy B. still gets the rookie treatment from the Mavs’ veterans, especially when Dominique Jones is on assignment with the D-League’s Texas Legends, leaving Beaubois as the least experienced member of the NBA’s oldest team. “I expect chicken on the plane right now and he’s going to carry my bags too still,” Jason Terry said before the Mavs boarded their Sunday night flight to Phoenix. “He’s got to get 82 games under his belt before he loses that title.” Um, Jet, might wanna check the math on that. Beaubois has 103 regular-season games under his belt after starting at point guard in Sunday’s win over the Spurs. “I’m talking about playing quality minutes for an 82-game season,” Terry replied. READ MORE Rapid Reaction: Mavs 122, Suns 99 - How it happened: The Dallas Mavericks turned in a Spurs-like 3-point barrage in the first half and in particular the second quarter when they hit 7-of-8. Dallas made 10 from beyond the arc in the first half -- and a season-high 14 for the game -- to help build an 18-point halftime lead with 66 points, a season-high for any half. Vince Carter's return has been a significant addition considering Dirk Nowitzki's scoring continues to be on the low side. Consider in the first half that Carter's hot hand poured in 15 points, Delonte West had 13 -- and combined they were 6-of-7 from long range. Jason Terry had nine points and Shawn Marion had eight. Nowitzki had four. The struggling Suns played without their engine, point guard Steve Nash, and they managed to stay close up to about the 5:39 mark of the second quarter, trailing 46-41. Dallas closed out the half on a 20-7 run with a flurry of 3s and a buzzer-beater by West to put it away. READ MORE Rockets lose to Bucks in Adelman's return - Rick Adelman has mostly good memories from his years in Houston, and his new team delivered one more on Monday night. Michael Beasley scored 34 points, Ricky Rubio had 18 points and 11 assists and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Rockets 120-108 in Adelman's return to Houston. Kevin Love had 29 points for the Timberwolves, who blew open a close game with a franchise-record 42 points in the third, also a season high for any quarter. The 6-foot-10 Beasley, in just his third game back after missing 11 games with a sprained right foot, set a franchise record for single-game points by a reserve. He went 10 for 14 from the field and 12 for 12 from the free-throw line to finish just eight points shy of his career high. "That's what I've got to do," Beasley said. "I've got to penetrate, use my athleticism." READ MORE Lee back at Toyota Center unharmed, but with a story to tell and an endorsement offer - Courtney Lee was back at Toyota Center for the first time since his weekend car accident, thankful to have escaped unharmed, saying he would be unaffected by the incident and with an offer from a local dealership to endorse the vehicle he praised in his early Sunday tweet. Lee’s vehicle was struck head on by a car he said ran a red light at the corner of McKinney and Louisiana at around midnight after Saturday’s game at Toyota Center. Lee and two passengers in his vehicle were not harmed, but the other driver was rushed to the hospital. “I’m fine. Luckily I was able to walk away from the accident unharmed. Everybody else in the car was able to walk away also. I was driving down McKinney on my way home. A car that was coming down Louisiana speeding, if I had to take a guess anywhere between 80 to 100 miles per hour. I saw him at the last second and tried to swerve right to avoid him or just nip the back of his car, but he was coming so fast he hit us straight on when I swerved. READ MORE
Rangers not Looking to Fix What is not Broken - Die-hard fans of the Texas Rangers are holding on to a very simple mantra these days—third time is the charm. When a team has a history that is devoid of postseason activity like the Texas Rangers their recent success could be looked at in a couple different ways: “we finally got a few post season wins under our belts” or “third time will be the charm.” Anyone that has spent time in and around sports fans in Texas knows that they are not happy with just a little bit of success; they want it all. The Texas Rangers are looking to do just that this year by following a mantra of their own—if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. READ MORE
Houston Texans Talk In Wake Of AFC Pro Bowl Triumph - Courtesy of Nick Scurfield's article, here are some quotes for your review after Gary Kubiak led the AFC to victory yesterday in Hawaii. Gary Kubiak: "I appreciate the guys’ effort," Kubiak said. "I understand the drill. I understand we’re out here to make sure everybody’s healthy, but I tell you what, our guys were great all week – not only great players, but great people. "It’s kind of hard to call plays; you’ve got so many guys that want the ball. But they’re good guys. It’s great for the NFL. It’s my first taste of this, but I really enjoyed it." READ MORE Four ex-Cowboys part of Super Bowl XLVI - For the 16th straight year the Cowboys will be represented at the Super Bowl by former players. Four ex-Cowboys will be on the sidelines Sunday when New England plays the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis. Defensive back Nate Jones and fullback Lousaka Polite play for the Patriots, while defensive tackle Chris Canty and wide receiver Isaiah Stanback are on the Giants. Canty starts for the Giants, while Jones and Polite are backups for the Patriots. Stanback is on the Giants’ practice squad. Canty was a fourth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2005. Jones was a seventh-rounder in 2004 in the same round that produced Patrick Crayton and Jacques Reeves, which is a great job by the scouting department to have three keepers that late. Stanback was a fourth-round pick in 2007 but his conversion from college quarterback to wide receiver was slowed by a foot injury. READ MORE Could the move to extend Sensabaugh's contract inhibit the Cowboys? - When the Cowboys agreed to a five-year, $22 million contract extension with Gerald Sensabaugh in December, they made a longstanding commitment to a safety they had previously deemed worthy of a short-term investment. The transaction invited skepticism, in part because there wasn't a marked spike in Sensabaugh's performance. In fact, by the time the Giants finished off the Cowboys on New Year's Day, Sensabuagh had fewer passes defended and interceptions than he had accumulated the year before. He was also a featured member of a secondary that seemed as incapable of making consequential plays as it was prone to allowing them. READ MORE
With Break Over, Stars Seek Strong Start - For the first time in several months, the Dallas Stars had every member of their roster on the ice for practice in Frisco. That was definitely a welcome sight for first-year head coach Glen Gulutzan, especially as his team will start the second half of the season with back-to-back games in Anaheim and San Jose on Wednesday and Thursday. Dallas captain Brenden Morrow had missed the 1-0 win over the Ducks last Tuesday, the Stars’ final game before the NHL All-Star break due to a sore neck, but he along with Mike Ribeiro, who returned from a knee injury against Anaheim and veteran defenseman Stephane Robidas now looks to be recovered from an ongoing foot issue.
