Love leads U.S. in easy victory over Iran - Kevin Love scored a team-leading 13 points as the U.S. moved to 4-0 and clinched first place in Group B with an 88-51 win over Iran at the 2010 World Championship. None of the starters had to play extensive minutes for the U.S., which also got 12 points from Kevin Durant and 11 from Derrick Rose in the easy victory. Grizzlies backup center Hamed Haddadi was the offensive focal point for Iran, leading the way with 19 points on 7-for-22 shooting. Haddadi's NBA teammate, Rudy Gay (nine points on Wednesday) will most likely have to spend the better part of next season hearing about the time Haddadi outscored him by 10 points in a World Championship game. Welcome back: Delonte to sign with Celtics - Delonte West, waived last month by the Timberwolves, is reportedly set to sign a non-guaranteed deal with the Celtics. West was a useful fantasy player during his first stint with the Celtics, but he's not likely to accumulate much fantasy value as a backup guard in Boston. It's also worth noting that he'll be suspended for the first 10 games of the season due to last year's arrest on weapons charges.  Source: Boston Herald

How the Cowboys will decide on their 53-man roster - Every day since the start of training camp, and sometimes twice a day, coach Wade Phillips studies the Dallas Cowboys roster and picks the 53 guys he thinks should make the team. He has to keep it fresh, because things keep changing. Players improve or regress, get hurt or heal. It's not always as simple as erasing one name and jotting down another. If they play different positions, that could lead to another change. Or two.  Source: Associated Press

Dolphins GM wants to reach out to Dez Bryant over prostitute remark - Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland will look for Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant sometime before or after the preseason game between Miami and Dallas Thursday night, the Miami Herald reported, citing an anonymous source.  The Herald reported Ireland wants to close the book on the questiongate incident that happened between the two men just prior to the draft. Sam Hurd, other 'bubble' players face last chance to make good impression -  Hurd gets his chance tonight as the Cowboys complete the exhibition schedule with a home game against Miami. Most of the Cowboys' starters will have the luxury of watching from the sideline. Hurd falls into a group of players who need good performances to secure roster spots. Bubble players, as the term goes. Hurd sits squarely on the bubble. So do tight end Martin Rucker, offensive lineman Pat McQuistan , linebackers Curtis Johnson, Steve Octavien and Leon Williams and cornerback Cletis Gordon. They're a distinct group, different from starters and rookies. Source:  Dallas Morning News

It's a Cowboys roast: Jerry Jones, Babe Laufenberg, Barry Switzer make jokes at luncheon - The Cowboys annual kickoff luncheon, for the benefit of Happy Hill Farm Academy, took on the air of a roast on Wednesday. It started with former coach Barry Switzer recounting what he claimed were conversations with former defensive lineman Charles Haley in adavance of presenting him with the Tom Landry Memorial Legend Award. Tate vows to rebound, please fans - "The hit seemed like any of hundreds he has sustained on the football field, and the original jolt of pain was no different than what he has felt many times. But it wasn't long before Texans running back Ben Tate found out this hit was unlike any he'd known, the pain different than the others. This tackle ended his 2010 NFL season before it really began — just two carries into his first preseason game - and the shooting pain up his right leg was an indicator of the most significant injury of his football career.  Source:  Houston Chronicle

Kubiak deciding between kickers - Because coach Gary Kubiak is resting many of his starters for Thursday night's game against Tampa Bay at Reliant Stadium, backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky will start and play most of the game. "Dan's had a good camp and preseason," Kubiak said. "He's been more consistent, and he's protected the ball better. He'll play most of the game. "I'd like to get (John David) Booty some time in the fourth quarter. We'll have to see how it goes." Source:  Houston Chronicle

Texans celebrate largest season-ticket base in increase - "With 12 days remaining before they play Indianapolis in their regular-season opener at Reliant Stadium, the Texans have sold a record number of season tickets. As of Tuesday, the Texans had sold 64,355 season tickets, an increase from 2008 when they set a season high with 64,047. "This is our largest season-ticket base, and we'll continue to sell season tickets through the Indianapolis game," Texans president Jamey Rootes said Tuesday. "We've sold out every game we've played, but this season, with fan anticipation of what we're capable of doing, the schedule that includes the Cowboys twice and the NFC East, those things helped us get to an all-time high in a very challenging environment."  Source:  Houston Chronicle

Why TCU’s game at Cowboys Stadium could be half full -  A Half Full JerryWorld on Saturday? Follow the Money. A former recent TCU grad told me this morning that they aren't going to the TCU-Oregon State game this weekend at JerryWorld for one specific reason, "It's too much money." A lot of people have made the same comment. A lot has been made of the fact that there could be a lot of empties on Saturday for a live Four Lettered audience. A crowd of 40,000 in a stadium designed to seat over 70,000 isn't exactly what the good people at TCU, Oregon State, the Cowboys or ESPN had in mind when they scheduled this game way back when.  Source: Dallas Morning News

SMU kicker Matt Szymanski returns to practice after injury - Senior kicker/punter Matt Szymanski (groin tightness) has been taking precautions with his health during camp, but joined the team for field goal drills for the first time. Will Muschamp is 'not moving up at Texas for awhile' -  Leroy asks ... when do you see Mack Brown stepping down? Do you think he would have had the Horns won it all last year?  Kevin Sherrington: Not anytime soon, and no, I don't think he would have. And I don't blame him, either. He feels good, he loves the job and it's hard to make that kind of money selling insurance. Bottom line: Hope Will Muschamp likes his job, because he's not moving up at Texas for awhile.  Source: Denton Record Chronicle

Longhorns' tailback Cody Johnson inspired to lose weight through text messages - Besides eating right and working out, Cody Johnson says what really pulled him through was the encouragement he received all summer from his coaches via text. Source: Denton Record Chronicle

Mike Sherman 'needs to win eight games, at least' -  Potter asks ... what record does (A&M coach) Mike Sherman need to keep his job? Or does he just need a big win?   Kevin Sherrington: He's already had some big wins here and there. Some big losses, too. He needs to win eight games, at least. And I think that's certainly in the realm of possibility.  Source: Denton Record Chronicle

Texas Tech QB Taylor Potts leads group of Big 12 QBs feeling the pressure - As he's done before every football game since he was 7, Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert will listen to "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down as part of a practiced routine Saturday.  Source:  Denton Record Chronicle

Book it: Huskers over OU for Big 12 title; could BYU end up in Big 12? - Children of the Corn, your harvest awaits. Brigham Young fans, don't hold your breath waiting for a Big 12 invitation unless you can secure a higher-profile expansion partner.  Source: Dallas Morning News
