Vince Carter not expected to play vs. Clippers - Vince Carter will likely miss Wednesday's game at the Los Angeles Clippers and his status moving forward will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. Carter was not at the Mavericks' practice Tuesday afternoon at LA Southwest College. He did remain in Los Angeles, however, rather than returning to Dallas. "He's doing a little better today, but other than that, he's not expected to play tomorrow,'' coach Rick Carlisle said. He's putting up decent numbers this season and is actually among the more efficient Rockets on the current roster. He also put Russell Westbrook on his backside. That said, there's a drop-off from last year's Goran, the feisty lightening rod that we used to know. Something about him is different. To borrow from Jason Friedman, we've seen far too much of his depressing, AutoCorrect-inspired alter ego, Groan Tragic. READ MORE Double-barreled shooting from James, Bosh sinks Spurs - For the 10th time in the “Heatles era” of the Miami Heat franchise, two players have scored 30 points in the same game after LeBron James went for 33 points and Chris Bosh notched 30 against the Spurs Tuesday night. Here’s a list of those games, the 30-point scorers for the Heat and the result. READ MORE Project Spurs: Hibbert getting scouting reports from Duncan - It was well chronicled on this site that Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert was in San Antonio this off season training with several San Antonio Spurs players, most notably greatest power forward of all time Tim Duncan. As it turns out, the mentor-ship between Duncan and Hibbert didn't stop when the season started. According to our friends at Indy Cornrows, Duncan has been helping Hibbert out all season long. "I text him and I ask him how to play different bigguys to help me with the little moves to get a little edge on guys," Hibbert said. "So he's just like a little voice in my ear and I keep in touch with him regularly." Duncan and Hibbert's skill sets are slightly different, and the Pacers big man says that since Duncan is aware of that, he tailors his scouting reports to Hibbert's abilities. READ MORE
Rangers, Napoli not close in contract talks - Maybe this is why the Rangers tabled their contract extension talks with Mike Napoli. If the gulf between the sides on a one-year deal is more than $3 million, imagine what it most look like over a three- or four-year span. While the Rangers settled four potential arbitration cases Tuesday -- one of which was settled after the official "exchange" of desired contract figures -- three players remain unsigned. The club hasn't gone to an arbitration hearing since 2000. Napoli's $11.5 million request compared against the team's $8.3 million offer might put the streak in jeopardy. READ MORE
Can the Texans afford Mario Williams and Arian Foster? - The multi-million dollar question for the Texans heading into free agency is what to do with Mario Williams who will become an unrestricted free agent in early March if the Texans don't lock him up before then. Williams would be a hot commodity on the free agent market, presumably to a 4-3 team looking for a big-time defensive end. The Texans have three options with Williams: a) sign him to a long term deal, b) franchise him, or c) let him go unrestricted. READ MORE No Wrestlemania for Jerry Jones - Sorry, Dallas, no "Stone Cold" Steve Austin for you next year. Despite a strong online push and interest by both the Dallas Cowboys and World Wrestling Entertainment, the two parties will not be able to come to an agreement to bring the showcase wrestling event to Arlington in the next two years. "We can't host WrestleMania the next two years because of NCAA Regional in '13 and Final Four in '14," Dallas Cowboys spokesman Brett Daniels told The Dallas Observer. "We've talked with them and gave it a shot but couldn't make the schedule work." Over the past several years, the WWE has held their biggest event of the year in large, outdoor football stadiums. Starting in 2007, the event was held at Ford Field in Detroit, followed by Orlando's Citrus Bowl, Houston's Reliant Stadium, Phoenix's University of Phoenix Stadium and last year at the Georgia Dome. READ MORE Staubach: Cowboys are close to contending - The Dallas Cowboys are close to being a Super Bowl contender. None other than Roger Staubach said so. Let's hope Jerry Jones wasn't listening. Staubach, the legendary Cowboys quarterback, told The Dallas Morning News that the Cowboys are "headed in the right direction" and referred to Tony Romo as a "franchise quarterback." Staubach, who has always been loyal to his former team, made his comments Monday night during a 40th reunion of the 1971 Cowboys who won Super Bowl VI. The Hall of Famer also praised the work of coach Jason Garrett, who was himself a former Cowboys quarterback. "I think he has the team prepared very well," Staubach said. "It's just a matter of everybody clicking." READ MORE
Texas Stars Report: Trending Up? - It was yet another up and down week for the Texas Stars (17-18-1-2, 37 pts, #13 Western Conference). Texas went 2-2 on the week but in uneven fashion, winning against one of the best teams in the league and losing to the absolute worst. Consistency has been an issue all season for this club and it is now exacerbated by losing a key veteran piece in Francis Wathier. The biggest storyline of the week has been the play of Wathier and his linemates, Colton Sceviour and Scott Glennie. All three are of particular interest to Dallas fans, none more so than first round pick Glennie. With the high pick, high expectations were set. Glennie has finally started to evolve his game to resemble what scouts saw in Brandon of the WHL. Coach Pyle definitely points to the concussion early season and some systems work that needed to be done as the reasons for the slow start. In the last six games, Glennie has eight points (4g, 4a) including two three-point efforts. READ MORE
