Wade sorry for 'World Trade' Reference - "There's going to be times when we might lose one, two games in a row, maybe two games, three games in a row, you never know. It's going to seem like the world is crashed down. You all are going to make it seem like the World Trade has just went down again. But it's not going to be nothing but a couple basketball games lost and we'll have to get back on track." In the statement, Wade said: "In an interview yesterday, I attempted to explain how some people may view the Miami Heat losing a few basketball games in a row during the upcoming season. It appears that my reference to the World Trade Center has been either inaccurately reported or taken completely out of context. I was simply trying to say that losing a few basketball games should not be compared to a real catastrophe.

Suns hire agent Babby as General Manager - The Phoenix Suns have hired agent Lon Babby to head the team's basketball operations, a person with knowledge of the situation said Monday.

Blazers tab Thunder assistant Cho as new General Manager - New Trail Blazers general manager Rich Cho says while he's impressed with Portland's youth and depth, the team is still lacking the piece that will bring the city another championship. Cho, who spent nine seasons as an assistant general manager with the Oklahoma City Thunder, was introduced as the Blazers' GM on Monday. He replaces Kevin Pritchard, who helped usher the team out of the Jail Blazers era several years ago but was ultimately dismissed last month.

Barnes says he's headed to Tortonto - Free-agent forward Matt Barnes says he is headed for Toronto. Barnes wrote on his Twitter page Monday that he has decided to play for the Raptors next season. He also thanked fans in Orlando, where he played last season.

Magloire re-signs with Heat - Center Jamaal Magloire has re-signed with the Miami Heat for the coming season.

Nets' Johnson adds Mitchell, Krytkowiak to coaching staff - Former NBA coaches Sam Mitchell and Larry Krystkowiak joined the New Jersey Nets' coaching staff Monday. New coach Avery Johnson also hired Popeye Jones and retained John Loyer and Tom Barrise.


Cruz's blast caps Texas' 14 Inning win - in the top of the 14th inning when Nelson Cruz hit a 1-2 slider off reliever Enrique Gonzalez just down the right-field line and over the wall for a two-run home run that gave the Rangers an 8-6 victory over the Tigers at Comerica Park.

Rangers catcher Bengie Molina named American League Player of the Week - Major League Baseball announced today that Rangers catcher Bengie Molina has been named the American League Player of the Week for July 15-18.

Nippert day-to-day after liner to head - Rangers pitcher Dustin Nippert is day-to-day after being hit on the right side of his head by a line drive that forced him to come out of Monday's game against the Tigers. He was taken to Henry Ford Hospital for a CAT scan that came back negative. - In fact, Nippert was back with the team at the end of its 8-6 win. - "Thank God he was fine," said Rangers manager Ron Washington. "He's going to need a little down time, but thank God he is fine."

 

 

Romo ties for second at golf event - Cowboys QB Tony Romo didn’t make the U.S. Open, but he showed Sunday that he still has game. Romo, who missed on U.S. Open qualifying this summer, shoot a final-round 25 at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship, which uses the modified Stableford scoring format, and finished tied for second, 19 points behind retired NFL QB Billy Joe Tolliver, who easily won the tournament for a third time.

Slaton indicates he's cleared for Texans' training camp - Steve Slaton’s 2009 season ended on injured reserve, and his offseason began with surgery to correct nerve issues in his neck. But it appears the worst is over. Although the Texans haven’t made a formal announcement, Slaton indicated that he’s a full go for training camp.
