SMU hopes quarterback Kyle Padron won't be scrambling very often against Texas Tech this weekend.Of course there are risks as well. Last season SMU opened with Stephen F. Austin at home – and needed a comeback to win. Even after last year's breakthrough, ugly stats remain. The Mustangs haven't won a nonconference road game since 1998. They haven't beaten a BCS team since Kansas in 2000. They haven't beaten Texas Tech in 13 straight games, including a 43-7 loss in June Jones' first season in 2008.
