All three Texas NBA teams lost close games tonight. What happened?
Let's start off with the San Antonio Spurs. And no we are not going to talk about them being old. The bench players contributed only 34 points while the starters combined for 53 points with Tony Parker leading the way with 27 while Tim Duncan had 26 points. The rest of the starters had 12 points while McDysse had Zero Points, 1 offensive rebound and 6 defensive rebounds, he played 24 minutes. To me that is not what we need him to do. He should have had more offensive rebounds. The bench high point man was Manu Ginobili with 14 points and found himself on the floor time and time again without the benefit of any foul calls. The Nuggets trailed behind the Spurs most of the game until the 4th quarter when the Nuggets outscored the Spurs 31 to 23 with Melo scoring the game high 34 points to lead the Nuggets to victory.
The Houston Rockets lost a heart breaker, not only for them but for the Blazer fans as well. Luis Scola scored a team high 21 points in a losing battle. Their starters scored 43 points while their bench, with Landry the high scorer with 23 points, scored 46 points in the loss. The Blazers Brandon Roy scored the team high with 28 points while Andre Miller had 24 points for the Blazers Bench for a total of 45 points for the starters and 45 points for the bench. Why do you ask are the Blazers heartbroken? Greg Oden is out for the rest of the season after breaking his left kneecap. Some guys are just not meant to be in the NBA. Let's hope he has a speedy recovery and gets out of the league before he gets a career ending injury.
The Dallas Mavericks added to their streak by losing to Joe Jackson and the Atlanta Hawks 80-75. This was the first time this season the Mavs have lost 2 in a row. Is that a concern for panic or were the Mavs just being over confident going into the Memphis game and the Atlanta game? Or did those two teams just want it more? Dirk led the Mavs with 32 points to give the starters 60 points while three bench players tied with 5 points each with the bench contributing 15 points in the loss. Joe Jackson lead the Hawks with 31 points giving the starters 59 points while Josh Smith contributed 9 points leading the 21 points scored off the bench.
Let's hope the Spurs, Rockets and the Mavs get back on the winning track and be the force the rest of the NBA has known and feared.
