Duncan helps Spurs improve to 9-0 at home - Tim Duncan had 24 points and 11 rebounds, leading San Antonio to a 102-91 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday keeping the Spurs perfect at home. The Spurs have won all nine of their home games and are 0-4 on the road. The 9-0 start marks their best opening at home since the 2007-08 season when they began 13-0. Phoenix (4-8), beginning a five-game road trip, has now lost four straight games. Tony Parker had 17 points and nine assists for the Spurs, who have won three straight. DeJuan Blair added 14 points and rookie Kawhi Leonard had 12 for San Antonio. Suns veterans Steve Nash and Grant Hill returned after missing Friday's loss to New Jersey. Nash was out with a right quadriceps contusion and Hill missed the game with a right quadriceps tendon strain. Nash had 20 points and 10 assists, while Hill had just four points. Phoenix, which trailed by as many as 18 points early in the second half, cut it to five in the fourth quarter but wasn't able to close the deficit. San Antonio never trailed after the first quarter. Marcin Gortat had 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead Phoenix. Markieff Morris added 14 points, Jared Dudley had 12 points, and Shannon Brown had 10. READ MORE Dallas Mavericks Are On a Roll And Going West - After starting the season at 3-5, the Dallas Mavericks are now riding a five-game winning streak as they head out west to face Kobe Bryant and the L.A. Lakers, Chris Paul and the revitalized L.A. Clippers, and Al Jefferson and the Utah Jazz. Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers)Part of the longest road trip of the season, which includes a fourth game on the road against the New Orleans Hornets next weekend, this upcoming three-game foray into the western sky catches the Mavs feeling like the sun has just begun to shine on them. After an understandable, though frustrating, miserable start, the team is energized and clicking on about seven of eight cylinders right now. READ MORE Mavericks' Odom trying to move on from Lakers and city he loved - From Lamar Odom's vantage point, the Los Angeles Lakers did him a grave disservice during one of the lowest points in his career. And when he was most vulnerable. After Odom spent the past seven years with the Lakers and helping them win NBA titles in 2009 and 2010, the team that he thought he would finish his career with attempted to trade him to the New Orleans Hornets in a deal that involved Chris Paul. Although Commissioner David Stern voided the trade, Odom felt insulted. READ MORE Lowry, Rockets outlast Trail Blazers in OT - There was nothing left in reserve but fumes yet Rockets guards Kyle Lowry and Kevin Martin pushed on, stretching for a finishing tape that surely seemed like a lush oasis in the Mojave Desert. Courtney Lee missed his seventh consecutive game with a calf strain and Goran Dragic logged seven largely ineffective minutes. Lowry and Martin had represented the backcourt through 24 uninterrupted second-half minutes, and when Lowry missed his step-back jumper at the buzzer in the fourth quarter, five more were added to their ledgers. The Rockets survived Saturday night, outlasting the equally fatigued Trail Blazers 107-105 in overtime at Toyota Center. It was a win with a closing stretch that embodied the specter of the compressed schedule. READ MORE A Reminder: Daryl Morey Turned A Used Gum Wrapper Into A Starting Lineup - I'd like to take full advantage of Chandler Parsons' recent baptism as an NBA starter. Just a second round pick, Parsons has continued Daryl Morey's recent trend of scoring what Colonel Hans Landa would flamboyantly refer to as, "That's a BINGO!" READ MORE
Scratch Zumaya from Rangers' list - Hard-throwing right-handed reliever Joel Zumaya, coming back from an elbow injury that forced him to miss all of last season, accepted a one-year deal with Minnesota on Sunday. READ MORE
Texans Expose Ravens in Loss…NFL Week 19 Review: The AFC Playoffs - There was great potential for the second round of the AFC playoffs to be one prolonged yawn, but the Houston Texans were marvelously indignant about retreating silently into the night. READ MORE Playoffs demonstrate that defense still matters in NFL - The Giants and Eli Manning are one game away from a second trip to the Super Bowl in a span of five seasons. Let that sink in for a minute, Cowboys fans, considering it is downright criminal that the Giants are even in the playoffs. Remember, it was the Cowboys who had control of the NFC East heading to December with a 7-4 record and riding a four-game winning streak before choking away the division title by losing four of their last five games. But I digress by bringing up that redundant and still mind-boggling fact. Let's get on to the time-tested NFL truths we were reminded of during the past two exciting days of playoff football. Defense still matters. READ MORE Recurrent Theme for the Dallas Cowboys: So Close, Yet So Far Away - We all remember very well that the Cowboys went 13-3 in 2007 and had the top seed in the NFC playoffs. And we all remember that the team came out rather sluggish against the Giants, who beat Dallas 21-17 en route to a Super Bowl title. NFL Films might have named the annual highlight film for the 2007 Cowboys as “So Close, Yet So Far Away.” Four years later, NFL Films could have recycled the same title, but for different reasons. It’s hard not to think of those 2007 playoffs after watching both of the divisional playoff games this weekend. The Giants once again traveled to Green Bay to take on a favored Packers team, and once again, the New York defense rose to the occasion to give the Giants the upset win. READ MORE
Vincour and Larsen getting closer to return - There were seven players on the ice for the Stars optional practice Sunday, but for two of the players it was a big step as they work their way back from injury. For right wing Tomas Vincour and defenseman Philip Larsen, it was the first time they have practiced with the team since going out of the lineup. Vincour suffered an MCL injury in a December 15 game at the New York Islanders. He’s missed the last 13 games. “Finally,” Vincour said of practicing with some of his teammates. “It felt pretty good. I skated before, but it always feels way better when you skate with a few guys. You’re not alone there. You don’t have to chase the puck and you can actually take some shots on the goalie. That was good. “It’s still not 100 percent, but we are on the right track. It’s getting better every day.” READ MORE
